Whilst the gyms are closed the fitness world has turned to band training to get its resistance work done. With over-use of these bands comes the inevitable scenario of breakage - just be sure that you're in the right place when it goes and not end up as a fitness fail meme.
Wait for it....... ouch!
Not that its a competition but I managed to break 3 bands over the past month. This usually happens when you:
1) Jam them into your front door and try seated rows
2) Tie them around a park bench to do some wood-chops
Ive found that broken bands are actually more versatile as a "strap", especially for upper body and rotation exercises.
Got a spare band hanging around? Cut it for more training options
Strap training
The new benefits
- Increased range of tension
- No need for different band strength
- More exercise options
- More upper body options
- More versatility, no anchor needed for rotational exercises
- Seems to be easier on grip
The take away message is if you break a band don't throw it away. Using the new band (strap) opens up a new range of exercises that are usually awkward with the loop version. If you have a couple of similar strength bands at home I would say it's a great idea to cut the older one and train with both the loop and strap versions.
